Case Study 'N' 'N' is an Asylum Seeker living in St Leonards along with her 2 year old son and was referred to us through Links and is also a lone parent supported by the Family Outreach Service. She was interested in gaining skills and qualifications in IT and as well as working towards employment in Care work. Following advice and guidance given at Horizons she was able to begin a Basic IT course in the first instance. She was supported by a transport fund which paid for her journey to and from classes, as well as being offered a free crèche for her son. During the course of the term, the IT tutor identified a possible literacy need, in negotiation with the learner, N was referred for a literacy assessment She was then offered a place on an English course to support her written language. She went onto join a 'Ways into Health & Social Care' taking up the opportunity with a free crèche space.
